어려서는 부모님이 만드신 환경에 놓인다. 우린 그 알콩달콩한 환경을 우리집이라고 부른다.
맛있는 음식과 잘 꾸며진 곳에서 형제 자매들과 깔깔대며 웃고 성장하던 우리의 보금자리를 뒤늦게 더듬더듬 매만져본다.
밤낮으로 일을 하시던 어머니는 보금자리의 대주주로 우리집 회장님이셨다.
딸만 다섯에 할머니와 이모까지 두루 거두시며 아버지의 자리를 넘어 기업주처럼 우리집은 어머니의 큐 사인이 있어야 모든게 가능했다.
어려선 그런 어머니가 부담스럽고 두려웠으며 따뜻함을 찾는건 고사하고 혹여 거슬릴까 덜덜 떨던 어린 나의 마음의 보금자리엔 엄마 대신 외할머니가 계셨다.
어느덧 세상은 변하고 호랑이의 날카롭던 이도 하나둘 빠져 어느새 귀여운 고양이처럼 가르릉 거릴즈음 나도 반백이 넘고 어머니의 호령에 장농에 숨어 잠들던 사랑바라기 어린 나도 장성한 두 아이의 부모가 된 지금에야 부모님의 자리가 어떤 자리이고 철없이 지내도 되는 그 순간들이 얼마나 따뜻했고 소중했었는지를 새록새록 알게한다.
하지만 울트라 점프를 거듭하며 살아온 나로선 꿈에서도 그립던 따뜻한 보금자리를 스스로 만들어 제공해야 하는 입장이 종종 낯설다.
왜? 난 아직도 어리니까 아직도 어른이 낯설고 더욱 낯선건 내가 부모라는 것이다.
준비안된 부모라고 흉봐도 딱히 할말은 없지만 여전히 내맘은 어린시절의 사랑바라기에 머물러 있다.
그래서 종종 거울속 낯선 내모습이 서럽기도 하지만 어느새 내곁엔 사랑하는 두 아이와 주름 가득한 부모님 그리고 반려견이 남아있다. 모두가 나의 집이다.
나는 이제 우리집의 개념을 정정하기로 한다.
마음이 따뜻한 사람들이 함께 머무는곳으로 말이다.
산다는건 이래서 의미가 있는것이라고 주억거려본다.
진리로의 여행은 언제나 즐겁다.
